Montessori Children's House (“MCH”), founded in 1977, is celebrating 35 years of providing Montessori education to preschool and kindergarten children in the Columbus area. For 27 years, MCH was located just north of Upper Arlington. In 2006, MCH purchased its own facility in Columbus, near Upper Arlington and Grandview, and is now located at 950 King Avenue. Montessori Children's House is proud to be a full-member school of the American Montessori Society.

We provide a pure Montessori preschool environment for children ages 2 ½ through 6 years old. MCH also offers a kindergarten program which is recognized by the state of Ohio. Both half and full-day options are offered.
Montessori education is based on the scientific observations of Dr. Maria Montessori, the first female physician in Italy. Through her lifelong work with children, Dr. Montessori developed a unique method of education which recognizes the individual talents and interests of each child, while providing them with a peaceful, child-centered classroom in which to explore. This experience helps the children become self-motivated, independent learners.
Today, most educators and psychologists agree that the single most important period in the development of a person's intelligence is between birth and age five. A child's mind is extremely absorbent, and curiosity is at a peak during these early preschool years.
In the prepared Montessori preschool environment, children's minds form patterns for learning that serve as a foundation for continued education throughout their lives. Montessori children become enthusiastic, lifelong learners.
At MCH, all staff members have been selected for their love and understanding of children, their belief in the Montessori philosophy of education, and their positive approach to the classroom. We are very proud of our talented, experienced, and nurturing teaching staff. All MCH classrooms are led by certified Montessori directresses with either AMS or AMI certification from a recognized Montessori teacher education program.

School registration begins in January for the following September. Current school families register first, and any available spaces are then open to new families on a waiting list. Interested parents are encouraged to add their name to a waiting list as early as possible to ensure placement for the following school year.
If you are looking for a preschool program for your child, contact our administrator, Jenny (Hungler) Woodford to schedule a tour of our school.
“I could not have been more pleased with the five years that my children spent at Montessori Children's House. Every teacher that I encountered seemed to be personally vested in the academic and social well-being of my children, and there was a consistent flow of communication regarding their progress. The administrator is very organized and approachable. We moved from Upper Arlington to Westerville in 2005, yet I continued to drive my children to MCH because I did not want to give up the personal attention that I knew they were getting while they were in this school.”
